Flesh Gordon - The Bad Movie Report

Try to use these as yardsticks when you consider whether Flesh Gordon is worth your viewing time: First, think of it as Blazing Saddles with breasts; the political correctness quotient is more or less equal. Second, consider your tolerance to bad acting and slipshod camerawork (probably fairly high, if you're here); Third, ask yourself if a puppet going "MMYY.....AAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS!" is really funny to you.

I don't know if the following is true:

This is the movie that made the motion picture academy cancal the Oscar for special effects the year it was made. It was only one of three movies that had special effects that year. The other two were the Posiedon Adventure and Soilant[inc] Green. This has way better effects. Rather than give Flesh Gordon the Oscar, as they should have, they cancelled the catagory. Cheap move.

It is felt that the collectors unrated version with 10 minutes restored is still missing the hardest X action.

IMDB - Has an explanation for the lack of hard-core action in the unrated version.

For years, all of the standard sources reported that this film was edited from a hard-core "porno". However, when the "original, uncensored version" was released on video in the late 1990s, it proved to be only slightly more explicit than any previously released cut.

Hardcore sequences were seized by police in a raid. The director was forced to view the film in the judge's chambers and all hardcore material was removed.
